Image quality

Sony A9 can produce the finest class of images since the combo of Bionz X, stacked 24MP CMOS sensor and front end LSI inside the core of the camera take the responsibility to capture  tack sharp images, even in lowlight. Moreover, Sony A9 sensor is new as well as it offers larger pixels area compared to Canon 5D Mark IV, hence we expect better lowlight performance as well by Sony A9.

AF system

Sony A9 has incomparable AF system that pecks down almost every other DSLR and Mirrorless of current time. Though Sony implements Hybrid AF system – Contrast as well phase detect sensor that are great to track the fast moving subjects very precisely and instantly. But it is Sony’s ambitious 693 AF points that breaks almost all past records, letting the camera cover 93% of the frame with 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second. On the other hand, the AF system of Canon 5D Mark IV is also massive that features Canon’s own trademark Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Yes! Dual Pixel CMOS AF enables continuous automatic AF and AF tracking to enhance the overall camera’s AF operation. But unlike Sony A9’s intelligent 693 AF points the 5D Mark IV has only a dedicated 61-point High Density Reticular AF II system that features up to 41 cross-type points tracking area.

Even the ISO range carried by Sony A9 is more than that of Canon 5D Mark IV. Sony A9 comes with 204800 of maximum ISO range whereas Canon 5D Mark IV finishes with 102400, hence the lowlight shooting will be much better with Sony A9 that also lets you capture very detailed images in lowlight with minimal noise.

Shutter speed

Sony A9 avails the faster shutter speed of 1/32000 s that is stunningly great for shooting sports because the faster shutter speed capture the fast moving subjects very rapidly without creating blur. And other advantage of faster shutter speed is that its produces very sharp images by reducing distortion from the images. But, Canon 5D Mark IV keeps their shutter speed remain limited to 1/8000 s only.

Image stabilization

The 5-axis Image stabilization inside the core of Sony A9 will effectively reduces the unwanted camera shakes and produces crisp and blur free images and videos. On the other hand, you have no vibration reduction mechanism inside Canon 5D Mark IV so you need a lens with O.I.S to get blur free and crisp images.

Continuous shooting speed

The Sony A9 offers the impressive capability including high-speed, blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps, 60 AF/AE tracking for up to 362 JPEG or 241 RAW images. On the other hand, Canon 5D Mark IV is not a camera for sports since it offers continuous shooting of 7fps only.

Canon 5D Mark IV wins the battery challenge by offering you take around 890 shots at a time. On the other hand, Sony A9’s battery is not comparatively stronger that Canon 5D Mark IV that offers you only 650 shots at a time.

Sony A9 doesn’t give any vacant space to Canon 5D Mark IV. However, the price of Sony A9 is quite more than that of 5D Mark IV but packs all the features that a professional photographer desires. You should go with Sony A9 to feel new kinda experience in photography.
