Megapixel: Sony A7 II features full frame 24.3MP sensor that allows the user to get high quality images which can further be processed. On the other hand GH4 offers a MFT 16.5MP sensor that creates good quality images but the quality is not as good as A7 II.


Difference in sensor size – The Sony A7 II sensor is 2X+ larger than the traditional M4/3 CMOS sensor used in the Panasonic GH4 camera.

Image Stabilization: The Sony A7 II features a unique 5-axis image stabilization system that compensates with the camera shake effect and reduces image blur from five directions. The camera reduces the blur caused by any of the five directions: horizontal shift, vertical shift, rotary motion, as well as the yaw and pitch. On the other hand no IS is featured on GH4.

AF system: the A7 II features a hybrid AF system that supports both contrast detect and phase detect method. The phase detect AF method is considered ideal for acquiring quick AF over the subject while the contrast detect AF system is considered ideal for fine tuning the focused area. Thus the simultaneous working of these two methods allows the user to experience highly précised and fast AF. While the GH4 offers just a contrast detect AF system only. The A7 II offers a total of 117+25 AF points while the GH4 limited to 49 AF points.

ISO: the A7 II has as better ISO range of 50-25600 that allows us to capture clear and creamy images at low ISO or low lightning images in high ISO.

Shutter Speed: GH4 has a higher shutter speed that allows the user to capture extra sharp images of even the fastest moving objects.

Top Continuous Speed: the A7 II can take up to 5 shots in a second whereas the GH4 is capable of capturing 40 shots in just a second. This shows that the processor of GH4 is much faster than the A7 II.

Video: the Gh4 allows the user to capture 4K videos @24fps and UHD videos @30fps, other than this it also offers full HD and HD video recording at multiple frame rates. While the A7 II is able to capture full HD 1080p videos @60fps.

Display: on the rear side the GH4 embodies a 3.0” touchscreen swivel OLED display, the touchscreen feature allows the user to control the functions with a great speed and the swivel display can be adjusted to many different angles and helps the user while shooting at difficult shooting conditions. On the other hand the A7 II offers a 3.0” LCD for live-time monitoring and playback.

WI-FI: Both the cameras features WI-FI which allows the user to connect the camera with any smartphone or tablet based on iOS or Android platform and enables wireless image sharing. The linked devices can also control the cameras remotely. Additionally the sony A7 II features NFC that allows it to connect to any device by just tapping both of them.

Battery: A7 II can takes 340 shots in one battery cycle whereas GH4 can take 500 shots in one battery cycle.

Dimension: A7 II is smaller than GH4.

Wight: A7 II weighs more than GH4.

 Verdict:  The Sony A7 II features a large fullframe sensor that will sure give you better image quality than the Panasonic GH4… the other advantages include the fat Hybrid Phase AF in Sony A7 II and the built-in 5 axis image stabilization system , on the other hand the Panasonic GH4 has a small sensor but it can record 4K videos … so for still shooter we highly recommend you to go with the newly announced Sony A7 II camera.
