Image quality

Panasonic GH4 gets the recognition by the Still shooters worldwide! Can Panasonic GH5 emulate its elder sister’s position? Of course yes! Since the camera features the same sensor size Micro Four Thirds (17.3 x 13.0 mm), but exceeding its points by implementing higher resolution (20.3 MP) that clearly indicates that you can get tuck sharp images with outstanding details. Plus the camera also fabricated by latest and advanced Venus Engine Image processor that emphasizes more to produce sharp images.

Image stabilization

This very effective mechanism has been incorporated in GH5, the 5-axis Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer) that effectively suppresses the appearance of unwanted camera shakes, beneficial for both photo and video recording, including 4K video as well as Combining an O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer, 2-axis) and B.I.S. (Body Image Stabilizer, 5-axis). GH5 also utilizes high-precision gyro sensor that effectively controls both the O.I.S. and B.I.S. compensation by reading focal length and shooting conditions, which is highly beneficial for wide angle and telephoto shots, even while shooting at the lowlight areas.

On the other side, no image stabilizer has been equipped in Panasonic GH4 that really creates issues while shooting 4K at lowlight.

AF system

Though, both cameras based on contrast detect AF system, but GH5 makes a long jump by implementing advanced DFD technology inside the core of the camera. The contrast detect sensor and DFD technology inside GH5 calculates the distance to the subject that evaluates the images according to their sharpness level, but comprehensively also analyzes the form, size and even motion of the subject. On the other side, Gh5 utilizes 225 AF points (GH3- 23 Points, GH4-49 points), which means it is a really a big jump in terms of AF points for more flexible composition which users can freely select the blocks needed to focus out of the 225 points. Moreover, the GH5’s Post Focus function enables users to select the specific focus point even after shooting, which helps in situations like macro shooting where high response focusing is much required. On the other side, Panasonic GH4 has only 49 AF points (very lesser).

Shutter speed

Faster shutter speed allows you to use wide aperture while shooting at Bright light conditions. You can see Panasonic GH5 avails faster shutter speed of 1/16000, whereas Gh4 allows 1/8000 secs.

Videos

Video performance of GH5 will be just groundbreaking that offers you 3840 x 2160p at 60FPS, whereas GH4 offers 3840 x 2160p at 24fps. However, both the two cameras offers 4096 x 2160p at 24fps. Moreover, Panasonic GH5 also offers 4K@ 50p (8-bit 4:2:0) also, with a bit rate of 150Mbps and no cropping (it uses the full width of the sensor). In simple term, Panasonic GH5 must be the cinematographers’ camera!

Shots

Panasonic GH4 offers you the advantage of taking 500 maximum shots at a time. On the other hand, GH5 lets you to take 410 shots only.

Verdict

Everything is crystal-clear since Panasonic GH5 has the best image quality, best AF performance, A grade Image stabilization, shutter speed and the most favorite 4K video formats.
