A lot of gossips have been going on in different online forums regarding the upcoming FF Pentax k-2. But rumor mills are still quiet. So we decided to talk about the expected specification of this camera. The current Pentax K1 was announced back in April, 2016, means we can expect its successor announcement sometime in June of 2018. If you remember, Pentax K1 was the first Full-Frame digital camera from Ricoh. Due to its charming specification in under $2K price makes it a demanding Full-Frame DSLR camera.
Pentax K-1 is of course a great DSLR, but there are some areas which require Pentax’s healthy attention, such as its Battery life, AF system etc.
Now let’s see what could be the specifications of the camera that we think must be featured in Pentax K-2!
One thing that really makes the Pentax K-1 a unique piece then it is its resolution. Yes the Full Frame 36 MP CMOS sensor and the advanced PRIME IV image processing engine capture high resolution images with great sharpness.
But we do expect the upcoming Pentax K-2 would have maximum Effective Resolution of 42 MP like Sony A7R II that along with improve Dynamic Range and lowlight performance of the camera. However, Pentax mayn’t change the the image processor and would love to keep the same Prime IV inside the core.
Very light improvement is needed in AF system. However, Safox 12 (in K-1) looks innovative and works wonderfully in capturing the rapid actions subjects. What we speculate: Most probably the AF module would be the same but there might be changes in AF points. The current FF K-1 employs 33 AF points of which 25 are cross-type. Plus, the lens also implements three f/2.8 luminance sensors to maximize performance in all lighting conditions.
We are speculating there could be 45 AF points in the upcoming K-2 (Expecting more) for much exceptional wider coverage of the target subject.
Usually, most of the Pentax cameras implement shake reduction property inside the body. K-1 also is equipped with a 5-axis Shake Reduction system. So we do also expect the same 5-axis I.S will be implemented in upcoming Pentax K2 so that we can get crisp and blur free images.
Must be the higher expectation in video terms! The Pentax K2 would be released sometime in 2018, when almost every imaging stuff features 4K functionality. The price of the camera must be revolve around $2k that means Ricoh must allow its camera to record 4K in 30fps. You know 4K is the must have feature in all these upcoming camera and most of the photographers love to splurge on the camera that can record 4K.
Weather and Dust Resistant Body
You should know that durability is one of Pentax’s great suits. You can take Pentax K-1 to any weather condition if it is drizzling then also OK. On the other side, we are also hoping the Pentax K-2 will also be made of stainless steel chassis covered in a magnesium alloy shell that is relatively tough and lightweight. The K2 will be designed to resist dust and rain.
By the way, these are the major things we do greatly expect to see in upcoming Pentax K-2. There might also be changing in some additional features, such as improved GPS, Compass, and AstroTracer etc.
It was just our expectation and this is something what we would love to see in Pentax K-2
