A spec sheet was released by Sony which listed the specs and features of the Sony’s very first APCS (Active-Pixel-Color-Sampling). The Foveon sensors utilizes three layers of pixels, however the new APCS sensor will use just a single layer of pixel array. And currently available Bayer sensors combines 4 pixels (R-G-B-G) in order to get a single pixel of color information but the forthcoming APCS sensor will utilize single pixel to get 1 pixel of color information.
The new Sony sensor will capture more electrons and therefore higher dynamic range and lower noise will be available with its with its bigger sized pixels.
