Canon 800D/T7i vs. Canon 80D

Canon 800D vs. Canon 80D

The AF systems of both Canon 800D as well as 80D are just outstanding that features extremely intelligent and blazing fast Dual Pixel CMOS sensor, which is really a game changer that actively changes the way your focus on the subjects. Anyway, Canon 80D is a year older than canon 800D, but 800D borrowed a lot of specifications from its sophisticated family member, 80D. For instance, AF system (as we told you), Video recording capabilities – both can record Full HD video at 60fps and image sensor which we call a heart of the camera is also similar. Now the question is where is the big difference in these two cameras? See our detailed comparison to find out the actual differences.

Image quality

Canon 800D features the same sensor and effective pixels as of Canon 80D. Means both have almost same sized APS-C sensor (22.3 x 14.9 mm), which clearly confirms that both cameras will be able to capture sharp and crystal clear shots but the missing of low pass filter in 80D maximizes the probability of capturing outstanding detailed images even in lowlight areas.

AF system

Let’s tell you Canon 800D has not gone through any change it just uses the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF System as of Canon 80D. Now, let’s introduce you something about this incredible AF system (Dual Pixel CMOS AF system). Actually, this AF system was first introduced with Canon 70D – A very innovative AF technology that allows both capture video in Live View with smooth and precise autofocus. Not only this, this game-changing AF technology provides fast and accurate autofocus during Live View still image capture. Actually, CMOS sensor on both Canon 800D and 80D has two photodiodes per pixel (Total 40 million) and each pixel on the sensor performs both phase-difference detection autofocus and capture light. On the other hand, Phase-difference detection AF, enabling the cameras to achieve quick and easy auto focus. Furthermore, due this innovative AF system the camera gets autofocus on approx 80% of the image plane that eventually confirms you get images with stunning details.

Shutter speed

Canon 80D avails faster shutter speed of 1/8000 secs, whereas Canon 800D uses 1/4000 sec only. Faster shutter speed in a camera ultimately blocks the way of distortion, plus also incredibly minimizes the “rolling shutter” effect while shooting fast moving subjects. Furthermore, this fast shutter speed also allows the camera to capture sharp, crystal clear images with a wide open aperture while shooting at bright light conditions.

Continuous shooting speed

The difference in the continuous shooting speed is not huge, but Canon 80D is leading by 1fps enables users an easy tracking and capturing of fast moving subjects almost at any location of shooting. Furthermore, Canon 800D also allows you enjoy faster JPEG shooting (burst mode) and RAW shooting than Canon 800D.

Battery Life

You can shoot around 960 shots consecutively at a time with Canon 80D, whereas the battery capacity of Canon 800d is to take only 600 shots at a time.

Weather Sealed

Honestly, the price of Canon 80D is going higher than Canon T7i/800D because of it weather sealed body that actively protects the camera from dusts and water in every location of shooting. On the other hand, T7i is no weather sealed body.

Looking at the specs of these two cameras one thing seems very clear that the photographers who don’t want to extend their budget can be rest assured with Canon T7i ( Reasons we discussed above), but the photographers who still demands some additional features and moreover the weather sealed body should pick the Canon 80D.
