If you carefully select some of the best compact cameras which are highly recommended for travel photographers then Canon 200D/ SL2 also confirms its position under Top ten. Though SL2 is compact and lightweight camera but features very decorated specifications like 24 Millions of effective pixels, latest Image processing engine (Digic 7) and above all its innovative feature and Canon’s own proprietary called Dual Pixel CMOS AF system for high speed tracking of the subjects with immense precision. On the other hand, we have Nikon D7200, as its competitor that has robust specs like maximum ISO range, shutter speed, AF points, larger display etc. Let’s go in details and check out the actual difference between these two cameras.

Would we expect any big difference in the quality of the images produced by these two cameras? Not at all big, but Nikon D7200 has a bit bigger sensor size used inside (APS-C sensor). However, both have high resolution of 24 MP but somewhere due to large sensor size we do expect sharper images from Nikon D7200 because the bigger will be the sensor maximum light will enter and producer sharp and clear shot of the desired subjects. If we compare the image processing engine then SL2/200D has advanced image processing engine “Digic 7” compared to “Expeed 4” of Nikon D7200. So probably SL2 could perform better in lowlight.
Thankfully, 200D has innovative Dual Pixel AF system at the core that keeps great control over focus even if the main subject moves or the point of focus changes, plus also enhances the usability of shooting with Live View. On the other hand, Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers over 80% of the width and height of the Live View frame and works tremendously well and accurate while capturing the moving subjects without losing detail. But Nikon D7200 has no dedicated AF technology implemented inside to give you pin point focus of the subjects, but D7200 has total 51 innovative AF points out of which 15 are cross types that increases the detection strength of the camera and total 51 gives points cover a wide area of the frame in DX format and most of the frame in 1.3x Crop Mode. Canon 200D, on the other side, has 9 AF points only.
Both the two cameras are able to maintain the outstanding image quality all the way upto 51200, but by expanding the range to 102400 Nikon D7200 offers you shoot incredible Monochromatic shots, which at a time is difficult to shoot with the cameras having lesser ISO range.
One of the great advantages of faster shutter speed is that it greatly blocks the way of distortion that are ultimately created while shooting with slower shutter speeds. Other advantage is that with faster shutter speeds the camera will able to capture the rapid actions of the subjects very effortlessly. You can see in this comparison Nikon D7200 avails the shutter speed of maximum 1/8000 s, whereas SL2 avails 1/4000 s only.
Continuous shooting drive
Nikon D7200 has 6fps of continuous shooting drive and its 6 fps continuous shooting capacity, making D7200 an outstanding choice for sports, wildlife and other fast action, but while using live view, the maximum frame rate will be approx. 3.7 fps. On the other hand, Canon 200D comes with maximum frame rates of 5fps only.
On the rear side of Nikon D7200 a large 3.2″ 1,229k-dot LCD monitor is incorporated and features an RGBW alignment that dramatically improve visibility when working in bright lighting conditions. Though SL2 has smaller display than D7200 but it is touch screen LCD provides an intuitive method for controlling focusing points, navigating menus, and reviewing imagery. The other features of the screen is it is Vari -angle allows you work low and up angle in better way.
Nikon D7200 allows you take around 1110 shots at a single time battery fully charged, whereas SL2/200D lets you take around 650 shots only.
Though Canon 200D/SL2 is compact and lightweight camera comes with moderate specifications So we believe it is very good camera to carry while you are on the go. Due to its simple set of specifications price also remain attainable that comes under $600 range. On the other hand, Dual Pixel CMOS sensor creates a slight difference. otherwise Nikon D7200 is neatly winning the competition that has very standard set of specifications that could get loved by the photographers after the entry-level.
