Image quality

Both the two cameras have same resolution but little difference in sensor size. Nikon D3400 features APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm), which is a bit larger than the sensor size of Canon 200D. As we know larger sensor increases the light gathering ability of the camera and more light means clear and sharp shots are surely possible. Moreover, Nikon D3400 doesn’t have low pass filter that means it captures much details of the subjects even in lowlight.

 AF system

Dual Pixel CMOS AF system inside Canon SL2/200D is one of the big reasons make this one a stunning compact cameras available out there. Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers over 80% of the width and height of the Live View frame and captures the moving subjects very accurately without losing detail. Dual Pixel AF system at the core of 200D is highly innovative that keeps great control over focus even if the main subject moves or the point of focus changes, plus also enhances the usability of shooting with Live View. No such kind of dedicated AF technology is incorporated inside Nikon D3400. But Nikon D3400 has 11 AF points compared to 9 AF points of Canon SL2 (Not a big difference) so therefore both the two camera will be also ti capture sharp images even in lowlight conditions.

ISO

Again Canon SL2 looks steady in lowlight since it offers an expandable ISO range of 51200. On the other hand, Nikon D3400 offers maximum ISO range of 25600 only.

Video

Both the two cameras can record Full HD video but SL2 can take 1080p @60fps, whereas Nikon D3400 limits to 30fps only.

Battery Life

Nikon D3400 is just amazing that lets you capture maximum 1200 shots at a single time charge, whereas Canon SL2/200D allows you take only 650 shots at a time.

Verdict

Travelers should go with Canon SL2 since it features very innovative Dual Pixel CMOS sensor and maximum ISO range. SL2 and D3400 both have very identical specifications. Moreover, SL2 offers Full HD video @60fps only. Nikon D3400 is also a solid camera, on the other hand, but its specifications are comparatively weaker than SL2.
