On the other side, Panasonic GX8 employs 20.3MP Four third sensor, is looking little dwarf infront of APS-C sized camera (Canon EOS m5).

AF system– The only difference in their AF systems is that Canon EOS M5 employs hybrid AF system (contrast+ Phase) and Panasonic has to work with only contrast detect sensor. But the benefit in working with Panasonic GX8 is that its contrast AF system features DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology that quickly calculate the distance to subjects and adjust the focusing position in as little as 0.07 seconds. On the other hand, Canon M5 also features Dual Pixel CMOS AF that allows users to acquire smooth and fast focusing results according to their needs. Moreover, both the two cameras have same number of AF points that is 49.

Image stabilization– Well, you are not a superhero who can hold their camera steady for long time and save the images from unwanted blurs. You should know that unwanted camera shakes are the sure part of shooting that results the image into blurry issue and to eliminate the appearance of those camera shakes a camera should have vibration reduction mechanism. Happily, you can see that Panasonic GX8 engineered Dual-IS (image stabilizer) mechanism, which is highly effective to correct camera shakes on different plane with maximum 3.5X wider correction angle at wider end including and keep your images from blur, moreover, you can get clear handheld shots even in lowlight condition. Actually, Dual I.S. means  both Body I.S. and Lens I.S. work at the same time to take advantage of both stabilizers, allowing for more powerful vibration correction.

Also, the Canon EOS M5 does incorporate this vibration reduction technology (Digital image stabilization), but you can use it when you are working for video with this camera. The I.S system is limitefd to video mode only and above all it’s electronic I.S system that professional photographers will never go to use

Shutter speed– If Panasonic GX8 in your hand, then whether the fastest moving train or running deer (during wildlife shooting) with fastest shutter speed of 1/16000 sec, you can capture everything including all actions of the desire subjects moving much rapidly. On the other hand, Canon EOS M5 offers only 1/8000 sec of shutter speed (requires much faster shutter speed).

Continuous shooting speed– In Panasonic GX8, you can choose continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking up to 11fps, or up to 8fps with live view, ensuring that you will not miss any action of the target subjects. While Continuous shooting of Canon EOS M5 is restricted to only 9fps.

Videos- Users of Panasonic GX8 can record stunningly smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K video in 3840×2160 at 30p (60Hz) or 24p in MP4 unlimited in addition to the full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60p (60 Hz) videos in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF. On the other hand, users have to be happy with Canon M5’s limited full HD video capability.

Display– Canon EOS M5 integrates Intuitive touch screen 3.2 tilt-type (85° up/180° down) LCD monitor (approx. 1,620,000 dots) making it easy to shoot from a high or low angle even in vertical composition and also enables clear viewing.

Battery– You can take about 295 photos in a single time charge with Canon EOS M5, whereas with Panasonic GX8 you can take around 330 shots at a time.

Verdict- You have to know yourself the purpose you want to take the camera for and if image quality is your primary purpose, then Canon EOS M5 is the camera for you. And if you want your camera to capture 4K video (which is truly a desire of every photographer of the present time) and stunning stills then Panasonic GX8 is the exact solution since the camera offers faster shutter speed as well as continuous shooting drive.
