Sigma will coming soon with its its SD2 DSLR camera with the latest Foveon X3 Quattro Direct sensor

Sigma-SD1

As we know Sigma SD1 DSLR camera was introduced in 2012 with the specifications – 46MP Foveon X3 APS-C CMOS Sensor, Dual TRUE II Image Processor, 11-Point Twin Cross Sensor AF System, ISO 100-6400, Up to 6 fps Shooting, 77-Segment AE Sensor.

We expect the upcoming SD2 DSLR camera will come with the improved continuous shooting speed more than6 fps, more than 11-point Twin Cross Sensor AF System, and increase in ISO range from 100-12800 compare to the predecessor Sigma SD1 DSLR camera.

Now we have much expectation after the interview of the Sigma’s CEO Kazuto Yamaki where he clearly stated that they have decided to use the latest Foveon X3 Quattro Direct sensor from the DP2 Quattro compact camera in a Sigma DSLR body in coming days.

As stated in an interview:-

First, we started with the sensor development. We had already been discussing what kind of sensor we make with the Foveon, Inc. and we as SIGMA wanted to improve image quality (resolution) by increasing the number of pixels. The Quattro image sensor was born to deal with the increased data. As the first camera to have the new sensor, we chose the dp because of the shockless body and the dedicated lens optimized for the ultra high-resolution capturing. Of course, we’re planning to use the sensor for the SLR SD body.

There is lots of expectation that the use of the Quattro sensor’s architecture in the upcoming DSLR camera will come with the improvement over true color rendition, more detail capture, and faster image processing including the delivery of more realistic images comparison to the earlier Sigma SD1 DSLR camera.

Hence we expect the upcoming DSLR camera will be Sigma SD2.
